Shamkumar Shende2025-02-23 Hello ! I am Shamkumar Shende, age 73 years. I was suffering from sciatica pain since last 12 years but from April 2024, the pain was so severe that I couldn't even stand or sleep. Then I visited Dr. Priyank Patel at their Spine Clinic in Panchpadi, Thane. MRI scan of lumbosacral spine showed buldge of L3L4L5 and S1disc and I was advised surgery. I was very much afraid of surgery as I was 73 years with diabetes, high BP and CKD. Dr. Patel assured me that there is nothing to worry about the surgery. Dr. Patel encouraged me to live my normal life after surgery. Hence I made up my mind for surgery which was performed at Jupiter hospital, Thane on 1st August, 2024 by Dr. Priyank Patel and his expert team. With some restrictions for precautionary measures, I was using lumber belt for three months. After that, my travel restrictions were stopped. Then I traveled to Hong Kong, stayed there for about one month and returned back to India without any problem. Thanks to Dr. Priyank Patel and his team for their excellent support. Now, I am living my normal life, able to walk 7000 steps daily. 🙏🙏🙏 VINAY SHAH2025-01-10 I am Vinay Shah, Age 59 A year back, in June 2023, I had mild spinal pain which grew over time. So we consulted an orthopaedic doctor in Thane. But as the disease was wrongly diagnosed, the pain grew to such an extent that I wasn't able to walk even for a few minutes! Along with that, the hemoglobin level dropped to 5 which is very low, especially in mens. I was completely bed ridden. In fact, at times, wasn't able to go to the washroom and had to make the necessary arrangements for the same. Later, we came to know about Dr. Priyank Patel. In the very first interaction, he checked all the aspects, made a few reports including MRI and immediately hospitalized me seeing the seriousness of the case. There, at Jupiter Hospital, I was being treated with injections (anti - biotics) and some other necessary supplements. In 8 days, my infection was decreased which wasn't the case in last 5 months. Post hospitalization as well, the antibiotics and tablets were continued along with some other essentials tablets like vitamin. Later, physiotherapy was also being added which helped to re-gain strength. The monthly blood reports helped to track the infection level. The suggested diet also showed results. Today, Jan 2025, the infection is in control, infact almost NIL; other blood parameters are normal and I can walk for 1 hour straight as well as I am able to do tasks on my own that too without any surgery or operation. A big heartfelt Thanks to Dr Priyank Patel and his team for giving me a second life and a hope to live. All I want to say is don't lose hope because spinal infections/ diseases are curable. Shruthi Drose2024-12-20 We were truly devastated when my brother-in-law’s MRI scan results showed either a neoplastic tumour or a spinal infection. We at once rushed to Jupiter not knowing which doctor to see. Dr Patel was available and saw us immediately. He thoroughly and calmly (yes, this was very important, given that we were scared) examined the reports and suggested a biopsy to confirm. He duly prescribed medications and asked us to get an ash brace (nothing fancy, get it from Amazon: his words). He arranged a quick appointment with the radiologist. After the biopsy, the results would be available only after some days. But before all the reports were ready, we received a call from Dr Patel’s team announcing that biopsy confirmed it was spine TB and NOT cancer. See the dedication and and concern of not letting a patient and his family wait dreadfully for all the reports. They immediately gave us the news of the favourable outcome and even suggested a wonderful pulmonologist. With proper medication and guidance my brother-in-law is nearing complete recovery. We thank Dr Patel for his professional expertise. It’s not just about the right treatment alone but also how delicately he dealt with us when we first approached him is truly commendable. Also, his team is very supportive and kind. ankur jain2024-12-11 Dr. Patel has helped me with a conservative treatment as I had a surgical problem. He is very helpful and professional. He explains the problem and treatment very well . I am perfectly fine without having to go for surgery. anjani sharma2024-11-07 My experience was excellent.Doctor is very great n treated me without surgery and also recommend me to start gym and workout. maneesh taparia2024-08-15 No one likes to go to a Surgeon. But when it's inevitable for Spine Dr Priyank is the man, and his team is one of the best. Jupiter Hospital is the place to be in. Since spine decompression surgery and total recovery is a long drawn 6 months+ process, to choose a right team is paramount. We are extremely happy at every step in this process.
Spondylolisthesis can be categorized into several types based on its underlying causes and characteristics. The main types of spondylolisthesis include:
This is the most common type and typically occurs in older adults due to age-related wear and tear on the spinal discs and joints. It often affects the lumbar spine (lower back).
This type is present from birth and results from a structural abnormality in the vertebrae, such as dysplasia or malformation
This type is caused by a defect or fracture in a part of the vertebra called the “pars interarticularis.” It is more common in children and young adults and can be categorized further into two subtypes
This type occurs as a result of a traumatic injury to the spine, such as a fracture or dislocation.
It is a rare type and is caused by underlying conditions that weaken the vertebrae, such as tumors or infections.
Sometimes, spondylolisthesis can develop as a complication following spinal surgery.
Each type of spondylolisthesis may have distinct causes, symptoms, and treatment approaches. Accurate diagnosis by a healthcare professional is essential to determine the specific type and develop an appropriate treatment plan.
Diagnosing spondylolisthesis typically involves a combination of medical history assessment, physical examination, and imaging studies. Healthcare providers may inquire about symptoms, past injuries, and family history. During the physical exam, they assess range of motion, pain, and neurological symptoms. Imaging studies such as X-rays, CT scans, or MRIs are crucial for confirming the diagnosis and determining the severity and type of spondylolisthesis. X-rays can reveal the extent of vertebral displacement, while CT scans and MRIs provide detailed images of the spine and surrounding structures. Once diagnosed, appropriate treatment options can be explored based on the individual’s condition.
Spondylolisthesis can manifest with a range of symptoms, which can vary in severity depending on the degree of vertebral slippage and the specific area of the spine affected. Common symptoms include-
It’s important to note that not everyone with spondylolisthesis experiences symptoms, and the severity of symptoms can vary widely. Treatment options may range from conservative approaches such as physical therapy and pain management to surgical intervention, depending on the degree of slippage and the impact on the individual’s quality of life. If you suspect you have spondylolisthesis or are experiencing any of these symptoms, it’s crucial to seek medical evaluation and diagnosis for appropriate management.
spondylosis disease and its treatment are vital concerns. Spondylolisthesis and spondylosis treatment options vary based on severity and type. Here are primary approaches-
The choice of treatment depends on the individual’s specific condition and should be determined in consultation with a spine specialist. It’s important to note that spondylolisthesis is a manageable condition, and with the right treatment approach, many individuals can experience significant relief from pain and improved quality of life. Regular follow-up with a healthcare provider and adherence to recommended treatments are crucial for long-term management.
Exercises for spondylolisthesis should focus on strengthening the muscles that support the spine, improving flexibility, and promoting overall spinal health. However, it’s crucial to consult with a healthcare professional or physical therapist before starting any exercise program, as the specific exercises should be tailored to your individual condition and needs. Here are some exercises that are often recommended for individuals with spondylolisthesis:
This may include physical therapy, medications, and lifestyle modifications. Costs can range from a few thousand rupees to tens of thousands, depending on the duration and intensity of treatment.
Epidural steroid injections are a common non-surgical treatment. The cost can vary but typically ranges from 5,000 to 15,000 rupees per injection.
The cost of surgery for spondylolisthesis can vary greatly based on the complexity of the procedure, the hospital’s reputation, and the surgeon’s experience. It can range from 1 lakh (100,000) to 5 lakhs (500,000) rupees or more.
This includes hospitalization, medications, physiotherapy, and follow-up consultations. Costs can add up significantly depending on the length of the hospital stay and the specific post-operative requirements.
X-rays, CT scans, and MRIs may be required for diagnosis and post-operative assessment. Costs for these tests can vary.
Physical therapy and rehabilitation may be necessary for a few weeks to months after surgery, incurring additional costs.
It’s essential to consult with a healthcare provider or orthopedic surgeon to get a precise estimate of the treatment costs tailored to your specific case. Additionally, health insurance coverage can significantly affect out-of-pocket expenses. Many healthcare facilities in Mumbai accept health insurance, which may cover a portion of the expenses, depending on your policy. Be sure to check with your insurance provider regarding coverage for spondylolisthesis treatment.
