I was referred to Dr.Priyank Patel by my friend. I was suffering from severe sciatica pain and tried different doctors, but I found relief within 8 days of Dr.Priyank Patel’s treatment. I am a hiker and was very depressed that my happiness was totally taken away from me and I will never be able to climb mountains. Dr. Priyank Patel on my first session itself build my hopes by saying we are here to help you fulfill all your dreams. I have been taking his treatment for last 8 months and have already climbed 2 mountains in Bali and did a 50km walk. He has a great team of doctors, Dr.Keshav who assisted me and answered all my queries and Dr.Niyati my physio who has helped throughout this process. I would definitely recommend Dr.Priyank Patel because he is a knowledgeable and uses modern technology and has a fantastic team.

I would like to share an experience my family and I had with Dr. Priyank, Dr. Keshav, and Dr. Kedar. Our journey with them began serendipitously, discovered through a recommendation from my brother-in-law, who is a pathologist and also Dr. Priyank Patel's junior in college. Our journey started when I brought my mother to them for consultation after a spine fracture left her unable to walk and perform daily activities. Her pain was excruciating. However, Dr. Priyank and Dr. Keshav displayed remarkable compassion and professionalism after consultation, putting my mother at ease and instilling confidence in our decision to proceed with the surgery. The surgery itself was an unequivocal success, and the entire process went remarkably smoothly, largely thanks to Dr. Priyank's expertise. I also want to express our special thanks to Dr. Keshav and Dr. Kedar, invaluable members of this exceptional medical team. Their guidance, expertise, and unwavering dedication were pivotal in ensuring the surgery's success. They continued to support and guide us through the post-surgery recovery process to this day. We are deeply grateful for the exceptional care and unwavering support provided by this remarkable team of medical professionals. With heartfelt appreciation, Thanks alot

A very amazing Dr with his Amazing team!!! Honestly, I came across him by chance firstly and secondly, through a very good friend. He recommended him to me. I took my 82 year old grandmother to him for consultation. He was very polite and soft with his approach while dealing with such geriatric patients. My grandmother was very apprehensive about seeing a doctor. She had fractured her lower spine and was unable to walk at all and was not able to do any of her routine activities as well. She was in terrible pain and we were just to see her suffer... We were suggested for surgery at other places but were contemplating about she undergoing a surgery at this age. However, with the first consultation with Dr Priyank and Dr Keshav, she had become comfortable and we could convince her for the surgery due to the confidence shown by both these doctors. The surgery was a 'SUCCESS'. The overall process of the surgery was very smooth and the surgery was done successfully. All this was made possible due to easy connect with Dr Keshav throughout our journey. He has been the biggest support and motivation to my grandmother and to us as family. This team of Doctors including Dr Abhay Nene, Dr Priyank, Dr Keshav and Dr Nishant made it all so seamless, effortless. They all made it possible and made it a success. They also suggested and guided us throughout the post surgery process and guided us to one of the best neuro-physiotherapist and today almost after 3 months of surgery, she walks all alone with the help of a stick and is able to do all her routine chores independently. :) We have never been more happier to see her walk normally.. A great Thanks to Dr Priyank and to Dr Keshav for making us believe in them and making it a success for us. Thanks a ton Doctors!!!!!!

Vertebral Augmentation Definition-

Vertebral Augmentation is a medical procedure designed to address vertebral compression fractures, commonly associated with conditions like osteoporosis or spinal tumors. The key objectives are to alleviate pain, stabilize fractured vertebrae, and restore spinal function.

Common Techniques

  • Vertebroplasty: In this technique, a specialized bone cement is injected directly into the fractured vertebra. This not only promotes stability but also provides effective pain relief.
  • Kyphoplasty: This method involves the use of a balloon-like device to create space within the compressed vertebra before injecting the cement. The procedure not only stabilizes the fracture but also helps restore vertebral height.

Minimally Invasive Approach: Vertebral Augmentation is recognized for its minimally invasive nature. Small incisions are made, minimizing the impact on the patient. This approach reduces the recovery time and discomfort associated with more invasive procedures.

Benefits for Patients

  • Pain Alleviation: Vertebral Augmentation effectively addresses the debilitating pain associated with vertebral fractures, improving the overall quality of life for patients.
  • Structural Restoration: By stabilizing fractured vertebrae and restoring vertebral height, the procedure aims to enhance spinal structural integrity.

Types of Vertebral Augmentation

  • Vertebroplasty: Vertebroplasty is a common type of vertebral augmentation where specialized bone cement is injected directly into the fractured vertebra. This cement solidifies, stabilizing the fractured area and providing relief from pain. This procedure is often chosen for its simplicity and effectiveness in promoting spinal stability.
  • Kyphoplasty: Kyphoplasty involves a two-step process. First, a balloon-like device is inserted into the compressed vertebra and inflated to create space. Subsequently, bone cement is injected into the created space, not only stabilizing the fracture but also restoring vertebral height. Kyphoplasty is particularly beneficial for addressing both the structural and height aspects of vertebral compression fractures.
  • Radiofrequency Kyphoplasty: This advanced technique combines traditional kyphoplasty with radiofrequency energy. The addition of radiofrequency helps in further reducing pain and improving the effectiveness of the procedure. It is considered a minimally invasive approach with potential advantages in pain management.
  • Augmentation with Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA): The use of polymethylmethacrylate, or PMMA, is a common choice for bone cement in vertebral augmentation procedures. It is known for its stability and durability, providing long-term support to the fractured vertebrae. PMMA-based augmentation is widely employed in both vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty procedures.
  • Balloon-assisted Vertebral Augmentation: In this approach, a balloon catheter is used to create a cavity within the fractured vertebra before injecting the bone cement. This method is designed to restore vertebral height and reduce pain, making it a preferred option in certain cases.

Choosing Vertebral Augmentation in Mumbai: When considering vertebral augmentation treatment in Mumbai, it’s crucial to weigh the options and understand the associated costs. Factors influencing the cost of vertebral augmentation surgery in Mumbai may include the type of procedure, the expertise of the medical team, and the facilities provided. Consult with a reputed vertebral augmentation doctor in Mumbai like Dr. Priyank M. Patel to discuss personalized treatment plans and gain insights into the procedure’s cost and benefits. Make informed decisions for your spinal health in the bustling medical landscape of Mumbai.

Conditions Treated with Vertebral Augmentation-

  • Osteoporotic Compression Fractures: Vertebral Augmentation is commonly employed to address compression fractures resulting from osteoporosis, a condition characterized by weakened bones. This procedure helps stabilize the fractured vertebrae, providing relief from pain and restoring spinal function.
  • Spinal Tumors: Patients with spinal tumors, whether benign or malignant, may benefit from vertebral augmentation. The procedure plays a crucial role in stabilizing the affected vertebrae, managing pain, and preserving spinal integrity in cases of tumor-related fractures.
  • Vertebral Compression Fractures Due to Trauma: Traumatic events can lead to vertebral compression fractures, causing significant pain and instability. Vertebral augmentation becomes a viable option to address these fractures, offering both structural support and pain relief.
  • Degenerative Disc Disease: Vertebral augmentation is utilized in some cases of degenerative disc disease where there is a loss of disc height and stability. By stabilizing the affected vertebrae, this procedure contributes to improved spinal alignment and function.
  • Kyphosis and Lordosis Corrections: Conditions like kyphosis (forward curvature of the spine) and lordosis (excessive inward curvature) may be treated with vertebral augmentation. The procedure helps in restoring normal spinal alignment and addressing associated pain or discomfort.
  • Vascular Malformations: Vertebral augmentation can be considered in cases of vascular malformations affecting the spine. By stabilizing the vertebrae, the procedure aids in managing pain and preventing further complications associated with these malformations.
  • Failed Back Surgery Syndrome: In instances where previous spine surgeries have not provided the desired relief and have resulted in persistent pain, vertebral augmentation may be explored as an option to address residual issues and enhance overall spinal stability.

For those seeking comprehensive care in Mumbai, consult with a renowned vertebral augmentation doctor in Mumbai or a dedicated vertebral augmentation specialist in Mumbai like Dr. Priyank M. Patel. His expertise ensures personalized and effective management of various spinal conditions through advanced interventions.

Preoperative Evaluation and Patient Preparation-

Before undergoing any surgical procedure, including vertebral augmentation, a thorough preoperative evaluation is crucial to ensure patient safety and optimize outcomes. This process involves a comprehensive assessment of the patient’s overall health, medical history, and specific factors related to the planned surgery.

  • Medical History Review: The first step involves a detailed review of the patient’s medical history. This includes any existing medical conditions, previous surgeries, allergies, medications, and overall health status. Understanding these aspects helps the medical team anticipate potential risks and tailor the surgical approach accordingly.
  • Diagnostic Imaging: Advanced diagnostic imaging, such as X-rays, CT scans, or MRI, is often conducted to precisely visualize the spine and identify the location and extent of vertebral compression fractures. This information is vital for planning the surgical strategy and selecting the most suitable vertebral augmentation technique.
  • Laboratory Tests: Routine blood tests may be performed to assess the patient’s blood count, clotting factors, and overall organ function. These tests help identify any underlying conditions that might impact the surgery or recovery.
  • Cardiopulmonary Assessment: Depending on the patient’s age and medical history, a cardiopulmonary assessment may be conducted to evaluate cardiovascular and respiratory function. This is particularly important for ensuring the patient can tolerate the anesthesia and surgical procedures.
  • Medication Adjustment: Some medications may need to be adjusted or temporarily stopped before surgery to minimize the risk of complications. This includes blood-thinning medications, which may be modified under the guidance of the patient’s primary care physician or relevant specialists.
  • Communication and Informed Consent: Open and clear communication between the medical team and the patient is essential. The surgeon explains the details of the vertebral augmentation procedure, potential risks, benefits, and alternatives. Obtaining informed consent ensures that the patient is fully aware of the intervention and gives consent to proceed.
  • Preoperative Instructions: Patients are provided with specific preoperative instructions, including guidelines for fasting before surgery, restrictions on food and drink, and instructions regarding any necessary medications. Following these instructions is crucial to ensuring a smooth and safe surgical experience.
  • Psychosocial Assessment: A psychosocial assessment may be conducted to evaluate the patient’s mental and emotional well-being. This helps identify any factors that could impact the patient’s ability to cope with the surgical process and recovery.

By meticulously addressing these aspects during the preoperative evaluation, healthcare professionals can tailor the surgical approach, anticipate potential challenges, and optimize the overall experience for the patient undergoing vertebral augmentation. This thorough preparation contributes to improved outcomes and a more streamlined recovery process. For the best treatment for vertebral augmentation in Mumbai, consider consulting a renowned vertebral augmentation specialist in Mumbai for a comprehensive and personalized approach to spinal health.

Vertebral Augmentation Surgical Technique-

  • Patient Positioning: The patient is positioned on the operating table in a manner that provides optimal access to the targeted vertebrae. Care is taken to ensure the patient’s comfort and to allow the surgical team adequate maneuverability.
  • Anesthesia Administration: General anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation is administered, depending on the specific case and patient requirements. The choice of anesthesia ensures the patient remains comfortable and pain-free throughout the procedure.
  • Fluoroscopic Guidance: Fluoroscopy, a real-time imaging technique, is commonly used to guide the surgeon throughout the procedure. It provides continuous X-ray images, allowing for precise localization of the target vertebra and accurate placement of instruments.
  • Access Point Creation: A small incision is made at the targeted area of the spine. Through this incision, the surgeon gains access to the vertebral body, where the compression fracture is located. The size of the incision is minimized to reduce tissue trauma.
  • Balloon kyphoplasty (if applicable): In cases where kyphoplasty is chosen, a specialized balloon catheter is inserted into the fractured vertebra. The balloon is inflated to create a void within the vertebral body, restoring height and creating space for the subsequent bone cement injection.
  • Cement Injection: Once the space is created (or in the case of vertebroplasty without balloon inflation), bone cement (usually polymethylmethacrylate, or PMMA) is injected into the void. The cement solidifies quickly, providing stability to the fractured vertebra and reinforcing the structural integrity of the spine.
  • Confirmation and Adjustment: Continuous fluoroscopic monitoring ensures accurate cement placement. The surgeon confirms the distribution of the cement and makes any necessary adjustments to achieve the desired outcome.
  • Closure: After the cement has hardened, the instruments are carefully removed, and the incision is closed with sutures or adhesive strips. The small incision minimizes scarring and contributes to a quicker recovery.
  • Postoperative Monitoring: Following the procedure, the patient is moved to a recovery area where vital signs are monitored. Postoperative imaging may be conducted to assess the immediate results of the vertebral augmentation surgery in Mumbai.
  • Postoperative Care: Patients are typically observed for a brief period before being discharged. Postoperative care instructions, including restrictions on physical activities and any necessary medications, are provided to facilitate a smooth recovery process.

The Vertebral Augmentation Surgical Technique is designed to address vertebral compression fractures with precision and minimal invasiveness. The choice between vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty depends on the specific characteristics of the fracture and the patient’s condition, with the ultimate goal of relieving pain and enhancing spinal stability. Consider consulting a reputable vertebral augmentation surgeon in Mumbai for personalized and effective spinal care.

Vertebral Augmentation Care

  • Medication Management: Adherence to prescribed medications, including antibiotics if recommended, is essential for preventing infection. Patients are also guided on the resumption of any blood-thinning medications based on individualized postoperative care plans.
  • Gradual Resumption of Activities: As recovery progresses, patients can gradually resume normal activities based on the guidance of their healthcare provider in Mumbai. The pace of activity resumption may vary depending on individual recovery rates and the specific vertebral augmentation technique employed.
  • Communication with the Healthcare Team: Open communication with the healthcare team is encouraged. Patients should promptly report any unusual symptoms or concerns to ensure timely intervention and appropriate adjustments to the postoperative care plan.

In the dynamic medical landscape of Mumbai, comprehensive care following vertebral augmentation is designed to minimize discomfort, enhance spinal stability, and contribute to the overall well-being of individuals who have undergone this procedure. For specific details on the cost of vertebral augmentation surgery in Mumbai and to consult with a skilled vertebral augmentation doctor in Mumbai, individuals can engage with healthcare professionals for personalized guidance and support.
